Conservation Land
Greetings!
Last night I attended the Conservation Commission meeting to procure an area for the establishment of a "sugarbush" for the Cub Scouts. After a unanimous vote, I procured permission to plant trees in the George Hill Rd conservation area with exclusive rights to tap these trees in perpetuity. They will be ours! The area consists of 115 acres of conservation land. There was discussion about walking trails and such and I can foresee establishing an area for the scouts to camp in the future. One step at a time. A letter of endorsement from the Con Com was approved and detailed maps are to be provided so that the grant for tree money can move forward. That is the final step needed.

I will be walking to area with the Con Com over the next
few weeks to go over the plans for the land. This project
could be ongoing for years! Details will be forwarded as
they come up. If anyone would like to participate, please
feel free!
One final thing. The subject of diversifying the trees
planted came up. I told them we would be glad to plant other
species as well as sugar maples. I have several hundred
black walnut seeds that are to be planted in a few weeks and
a year from now will be ready to transplant somewhere.
Sincerely,
Ken
